Special Olympics Update (5/27/2020)

FVSRA’s Special Olympics Region is looking into creative opportunities to see if there is an option to have a modified Softball and Golf season with non-state qualifying competitions. However this is just in the planning phase- nothing has been decided. If there they are able to move forward with any in-person programming, FVSRA will keep athletes and families up to date.

All training & competition continues to be postponed or cancelled through July 6th. Please understand that safety is always our first priority.

The 2020 State Tennis & 2020 Outdoor Sports Festival have been cancelled.

Summer Programming Cancelled (Updated 4/30/2020)

Dear FVSRA Community,

We know this has not been an easy time and that everyone is looking forward to getting back into routine. As you are aware, COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact on the world, and as a result FVSRA is having to alter our operations moving forwards. After considering pandemic projections and the physical health of our communities, the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association Board of Directors and FVSRA Administration have come to a tough yet important decision to cancel all in-person FVSRA programming indefinitely.

Our top priority is the health and well-being of all participants, families, staff, and volunteers. With the increased infection rate and the ever-evolving quarantine regulations and social distancing we do not see an alternative path forward at this time.

If you have registered for summer programs (including Summer Day Camp) and have already paid, our team will be working hard to process refunds in the next few weeks.

If you were looking forward to registering for our programs in our summer guide, we share in the disappointment that this cancellation announcement causes.

So, where do we go from here? Our team will continue to create unique programming opportunities including our live virtual programs. A full line up will debut in early June but for now you can check out our current offerings by clicking the Virtual Recreation banner on our main web page.

We will continue to monitor safety recommendations to make the determination on when we can safely return to our traditional programs we all know and love. We hope that you and your loved ones are happy and healthy through this all.

Sincerely,

The FVSRA Team

Summer Registration Postponed (Updated 4/11/2020)

Dear FVSRA Community,

First, I’d like to thank you for your support as we transition our programming virtually to provide a platform for connection, creation, and recreation. To say that these times are unprecedented and confusing is an understatement. But, I want to assure you that we are working tirelessly to keep our participants, employees, and communities safe. To that end, I want to share some important updates.

  • Due to Governor’s extension of the stay-at-home order through April 30, our office will remain closed until further notice.

  • We have made the decision to postpone registration for our Summer 2020 from April 13 to May 4 (residents) and May 18 (non-residents). All participants should choose the “Pay Later” option when they register.

  • Summer Day Camp registration is still open at this time and all families can choose the “Pay Later” option.

  • We strongly encourage all participants to update their Annual Information Form (AIF) as this will be required to continue in all types of programming, including virtual recreation.

Even with these updates it is important for families to begin preparing for alternative options this summer. We are committed to safety and we are closely monitoring the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). If we need to postpone or cancel our summer programming, all families will be notified by May 4.

Our team is working hard to offer alternative services, mainly through our virtual recreation portal. Our participants and families can expect virtual programming to continue throughout this time and they can expect to be notified when additional or new programs are published.

We know that you may still have questions. We have created a FAQ section of our website to help provide answers. Click here to learn more.

Thank you for your continued support. We wish you and your loved ones good health.

Sincerely,

Jackie Salemi, CTRS

Superintendent of Recreation

Fox Valley Special Recreation Association

Special Olympics Summer Games Cancelled (Updated 4/02/2020)

From Special Olympics Illinois:

"Special Olympics Illinois has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 State Summer Games (June 12-14) in Bloomington-Normal due to concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). We know this is disappointing for the entire Special Olympics Illinois family, but the health and safety of our athletes, volunteers, staff, and partners is the organization’s foremost priority.

We know how hard our athletes continue to train at home and work to stay in shape both physically and mentally. The Special Olympics Illinois team is working just as hard to plan athlete-centric sports festivals, when it is safe to return to competition. We are establishing a task force that includes athletes to plan events that will highlight the spirit and determination our competitors demonstrate each and every day. Stay tuned for more information.

In the meantime, we are creating new and exciting programming on our social channels daily. Visit www.soill.org to learn more and join in the fun!

When the time comes and it’s become acceptable to resume operations, we’ll be stronger and more dedicated to the athletes than ever. We’re in this together."

  • Personal Training: Unused training session will be carried over and can be used when FVSRA programming resumes. Participants who would like to request a refund instead should contact Jackie Salemi, Superintendent of Recreation at Jackies@fvsra.org.
