Aurora University TR Program Helps Raise Money For FVSRA Athletes!
On Friday, April 13, 2018 the Aurora University Therapeutic Recreation program presented FVSRA and FVSRF with a $4378.47 check to support Special Olympic programs at FVSRA. Athletes David Colby and Chip Davis accepted the check along with Kacie Jankowski, Athletics Coordinator, and Alex Engelhardt, Superintendent of Recreation, at FVSRA.
The money was raised through the March 20th Special Olympics Superheroes event at West Aurora High School. The event was an end of the season celebration for the FVSRA Basketball Teams. Over 50 Special Olympic Athletes were in attendance for an evening of 3v3 basketball, silent auction raffle, face painting, food, and Superhero themed activities. The Aurora University Therapeutic Recreation program facilitated the night. The Aurora University Men’s and Women’s basketball team officiated, coached and mentored the athletes.
The event was a unique experience for the Aurora University Therapeutic Recreation class to gain experience with various special needs and honor the Special Olympics athletes and their accomplishments throughout the basketball season. The athletes had a spectacular evening and the students learned a lot from the experience. Davis’ mother stated, “Thank you, AU! The athletes loved it!” FVSRA Executive Director stated, “Thank you to all of the AU students for providing such a wonderful event for the FVSRA athletes!!! You are the best!”
